Phase 1: The Master Hunter Challenge

To trigger the holster availability at the Trapper, you must complete Master Hunter Challenge 1.

  • Objective: Skin 3 Deer.
  • Location: The Heartlands (surrounding your camp) is the most efficient spot.
  • Note: The quality of the pelts (1-star, 2-star, or 3-star) does not matter for the challenge. Just kill and skin three of them.

Phase 2: Locating the Trapper

Once the notification "Master Hunter Challenge 1 Complete" appears, head to the Trapper. The most accessible early-game locations are:

  • Riggs Station: Located on the hill just East of the station.
  • Saint Denis: Located in the main market square.

The Purchase:
  1. Interact with the Trapper and select Buy.
  2. Navigate to Reinforced Equipment.
  3. Select Master Hunter Off-Hand Holster.
  4. Purchase it (it costs approximately $16.00).

Phase 3: Equipping Your Second Sidearm

Arthur will automatically equip the holster. However, you still need a second physical weapon to fill it.

Recommended Early Sidearms:
  • Schofield Revolver: Peer through the back window of the Valentine Doctor's office, then rob the back room. This is the best free sidearm in the early game.

  • Midnight's Pistol: Start the "Noblest of Men, and a Woman" mission in the smaller Valentine saloon and defeat Billy Midnight on the train.

Why This Is Beneficial

  • Firepower: Doubles your fire rate and ammunition capacity before reloading.
  • The Micah Factor: You can now leave Micah in jail indefinitely while enjoying full gameplay mechanics in the best part of the story.
  • Stats: Reinforced equipment provides a permanent experience bonus to your Health attribute.
