Little Rocket Man Achievement
The fundamentals
![]()
Little Rocket Man
Send the garden gnome into space.
The achievement is unlocked by carrying the Gnome from the beginning of the game all the way to the rocket silo in chapter 6.It's very important that you Complete the game without ever activating Sv_cheats 1. If you do this for some reason, the achievement will no longer be unlockable forcing you to start all over again.
Through standard game settings you are able to bind 'quick save' to what ever bottom you like, personally i prefer 'mouse button 4' so that im always able to save the game before doing something where i might lose the gnome.
Paste these 2 into youre console to bind quick save and quick load.
bind mouse4 "save quick"
--> FULL WALK THROUGH HERE! <--
bind mouse5 "load quick"![]()
Chapter 1: To The White Forest
![]()
Little Rocket Man
Send the garden gnome into space. The Gnome can be found on the First level of the game 'The White Forest'.
After getting free from the trainwreck by Alyx, receiving the gravity gun and shooting the closed train doors open with the gravity gun, seeing the citadel explode, head through the old mineshaft, clear out the zombies and the Antlions.
After exiting the mineshaft you will find and old abandoned shed, in this shead you will find the gnome. The Gnome is hidden under a wooden shelf as seen below.![]()
The Easiest way to get over the first puzzle is to place the gnome in front of the gate.
Chapter 2: This Vortal Coil
![]()
Little Rocket Man
Send the garden gnome into space.
After dropping down, i suggest placing the Gnome in the corner behind the table where alyx is laying. After placing the gnome down start preparing for the uncomming waves of Antlions. After fighting off countless waves of attacking Antlions, let the Gnome stay in the Corner, it will not despawn while you are out turning on generators. Trust me this will save you a lof of time.
Its important that you remember to bring the Gnome with you in the elevator when heading for the next Chapter.

Chapter 3: Freeman Pontifex
![]()
Little Rocket Man
Send the garden gnome into space.
This Chapter starts of pretty straight forward, bring the gnome along and place it next to the last 'Thumper' As seen below, the reason for this is because you are going to fighting 2 Antlion Guardians, by placing it here you won't risk losing itAfter defeating the Antlion Guardians, and completing the elevator puzzle, ride the elevator to the top and you will reach the next challenge. There are two ways of getting passed the following section, the first one is bringing the gnome along while figthing countless zombies (The safe way), the other way is shooting the gnome over the roof (Risky way), undernithe you can see a guide trying to showcase how the lineup is done properly
Freeman Pontifex (Gnome Line up)
![]()
Little Rocket Man
Send the garden gnome into space. 1. Make sure to save before your first attempt. 6. After retrieving the car from the bridge locate the gnome on the other side and bring it along
- Stand next to the metal fence as seen below
- find the line up by the metalgate
- find the horizontal line up
- peek through the window, repeat if Gnome not visible. Zoom on ''Z''
Usually i keep trying until i can see the gnome through one of the two windows, by loading up the save game from just before making the shot. When you are able to locate the gnome through one of the windows you can carry on trying to reach the car on the bridge.
Chapter 4: Riding Shotgun

Little Rocket Man
Send the garden gnome into space.
In this chapter you will be doing a lot of driving, there are two methods of doing this. The first one and the one I personally found the easiest is putting the gnome in the back seat or between freeman and alyx while driving, but doing so you have to quick save often to ensure your not losing the gnome.
The other option is using the gravity gun to shoot the gnome in front of the car then jump out of the can shoot it again and so on.
https://youtu.be/UFHSCzYxfTMWhen you reatch the Barn i recommend parking the car as close to the barn as seen below, and then bring the gnome inside also as seen below. When you exit the barn a fight will break out, you can use the other openings in the barn to fight of the combines. afterwards a Helicopter starts attacking you this is probably one of the hardest part of the entire run.
After the car breaks down and your going to fight the helicopter, i recommend placing the gnome under this train wagon before moving forward.
Chapter 5: Under the Radar
![]()
Little Rocket Man
Send the garden gnome into space.
Chapter 5 ‘under the radar’ starts out in a garage, Bring the gnome up the stairs and place it in the corner (As seen below.) by placing it here you won’t have to bring it around as you knockout the combine soldiers auto canon.
After knocking out the combine auto canon and unlocking the achievement 'Gunishment!'
head back to the garage and the upgraded car will be ready, remember to bring the gnome along. From this point onwards you will once again be using one of the methods mentioned earlier.
After leaving the junkyard Alyx and Freeman countinues forward and gets ambushed by the combine forces, i recomend leaving the gnome in the car, quick saving then running inside the house and begin the figting. After defeat the combine offensive, countine onwards.
eventurly you will arive at a large gate where a fight breaks out between dog and a striker, after dog defeats the striker, take it nice and slow making sure you are not leaving the Gnome behind.
Chapter 6: Our Mutual Fiend

Little Rocket Man
Send the garden gnome into space. Finally you arrive to the underground rocket silo where the gnome must be placed in the rocket, it is really important that you remember to close the hatch to the rocket before climbing down the letter as magnusen tell you to do. If you forget this you wouldn’t unlock the achievement.
After close the hatch you should unlock the achievement Congratulations!
