Section I: Users with ERROR CODE 2 & 5 Read Me.

Known Anti-Virus programs to Conflict with FFVII:
McAfee
Comodo

Cause: Your Anti-Virus scanner is deleting files due to FALSE POSITIVES!

Note: Disabling the real-time scanner isn't enough; because the files will keep getting deleted due to the real-time scanner auto re-enabling itself from a timer that can't be disabled or changed.

Solutions:

  1. McAfee users Visit this link for more info: http://steamcommunity.com/app/39140/discussions/0/846958223090052410/
  2. Comodo Users Follow this to Uninstall it: http://help.comodo.com/topic-42-1-148-830-uninstalling-comodo-system-cleaner.html

Note: If you want/need another Anti-virus scanner then there are many other good "FREE" ones out there like these:
http://free.avg.com/ca-en/homepage
http://www.avast.com/en-ca/index

And If you can shell out the coin then I recommend you get Symantec Endpoint Protection as it's the best one out there IMO, it's the one I have, trust and use!

Section III: Connection issues

Known Firewalls/AV's to interfere with FFVII's DRM Connection:
McAfee
Comodo

If you are getting connection issues then try the following

  1. Disable your firewall software or add an exception for “FF7_Launcher.exe” & “FF7_en.exe “ in this folder “Steam\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY VII”.
  2. If that doesn’t work then see if you can ping the SE Server by following this:
    A) Press the start button and type “CMD”(without quotes) and press enter
Note: These are the 3 IP’s you require a connection to play FFVII using the SE DRM Launcher:
IP:Port 50.19.236.143:443 – This ip will always return timeouts because it blocks pings 209.130.141.243:80 67.207.204.65:443

*Also Add these ip’s to your firewall exception list. B) Enter “ping”(without the quotes) and one of the IP’s listed above and then hit enter. You should get a return printout like this:
ping 209.130.141.243 Pinging 209.130.141.243 with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 209.130.141.243: bytes=32 time=158ms TTL=51 Reply from 209.130.141.243: bytes=32 time=159ms TTL=51 Reply from 209.130.141.243: bytes=32 time=159ms TTL=51 Reply from 209.130.141.243: bytes=32 time=159ms TTL=51 Ping statistics for 209.130.141.243: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 158ms, Maximum = 159ms, Average = 158ms

C)If that doesn’t work then you need to figure out where the ping is getting lost at by using a traceroute with the command “tracert” via this guide: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles-tutorials/trouble/Using-Tracert.html

Section IV: Failed Config loading/creating causes game not to launch…

To solve this we must make sure the following things are where they’re supposed to be.

  1. Navigate to this folder: “C:\Users\[user]\Documents”
  2. Check to see if this folder exists “Square Enix”, if not then create it.
  3. Enter that folder and check to see if this folder exists “FINAL FANTASY VII Steam”, if not then create it.
4. Enter that folder and:
A) if you had to create the folders then run the game again and it now should write all the config files; thus allowing you to play the game.
B) If the folders existed then delete the following files:
“ff7input.cfg” “ff7sound.cfg” “ff7video.cfg” “lastLogin.dat” “networkSettings.dat”

Then run your game and it should write the new config files allowing you to play the game again.
