Where to find the user directory on Linux and Steam Deck

To access the "Euro Truck Simulator 2" folder on Steam Deck, you need to switch to Desktop mode first. Press and hold the power button, and choose Switch to Desktop in the power menu.

It will startup the desktop environment. Open up the file manager Dolphin. You most likely won't see the hidden files, which we're going to need to access. In this case, press the setting button in the top-right corner and check the "Show Hidden Files" option. Or just press Ctrl+H, if you have a keyboard connected.

From here, the instructions are the same as on usual Linux desktop. Just ignore the Flatpak part.

Depending on whether you use the Flatpak version of Steam or whether you play the native Linux version or run the Windows version through Proton, the path to the directory will be different.

You can create a symlink in some other more accessible directory, like Documents.


The game recognizes symlinks in the music directory. This means you can add symlinks inside directories of the user directory (i.e. music), and the game follow them and get their contents. That would be useful for managing the in-game music and syncing it between ETS2 and ATS.

You can even replace the music directory with a symlink.

Don't forget to use the directory path appropriate for the version you are using.

You can do all the same things using your usual GUI file managers, such as Dolphin or GNOME Files. Just create a "link" to a directory you need and put it at Euro Truck Simulator 2/music.
