Scrolls and item scale

There are three types of attributes that can be picked up during our progress in the form of scrolls, Brutality, Tactics and Survival-respectively, red, purple and green. Weapons from short range to long range (melee and ranged) as well as shields and skills fall into one or two of these categories. The more points you have in an attribute, the more powerful your item will be. For those weapons that scale on 2 attributes, it will scale only on its higher attribute. So for example, having 10 brutality and 5 tactics for a cursed sword, its damage will only scale with brutality and investing in tactics will not make it stronger (unless you have 11 tactics).

Every attribute improved by 1 gives you 15% more damage on the item with its respective color. Also, you get +X life for each attribute you spend. The life bonus gets smaller as you invest in only one attribute. But if you decide to start investing in a different attribute, you will add a lot more to your life bar. The idea is that builds where you invest in only one skill are glass cannons (high damage, low life), builds where you invest in two skills are balanced, and builds where you invest in all 3 skills you have a lot of life but little damage. Keep in mind that survival gives the most life, starting at 60%, then brutality starting at 50% and lastly tactics starting at 40%.

Now let's go to the infographic. Currently there are 60 weapons and 31 skills = 91 items in total. 48 of them are scaled with brutality, 49 with tactics and 30 with survival (these numbers include items that are scaled on 2 attributes). The following image shows exactly which item belongs to which attribute.

Items

On the progression map you notice that every biome has a biome level. This level influences the items that you will pick up within that biome. There are sets of rules that have an effect on the item. Add up the number of the biome level according to the condition and understand how it works:
0-For items found freely on the ground
0-Dropped by a monster
0-Behind a golden door
+1-Purchased from a vendor
+1-Common float
+1-Cursed Ban, along with the gem and the scroll of power, plus the item will be colorless(Scale with the level of your highest attribute regardless of your original scale)
+2-Elite monsters
+2-Reward for completing a secret area challenge

The Runes

Runes are permanent unlocks that will give you the right to access locked parts of the map-including biomes-you'll want to get them as quickly as possible so as not to skip any possible items in your path.

The Rune of the Vine can be picked up in the Plane of the Damned by fighting an elite Undead Archer (hint: dodge his double arrow).

The Teleport Rune is in the Toxic Sewers and is unlocked by fighting an elite Striker (hint: bring a shield or something to stun or immobilize him).

The Goat rune is in the Ossuary, and is unlocked by fighting an Elite Striker again.

The Spider Rune is in the Sleeping Sanctuary, and is unlocked by fighting an elite Summoner (hint: bring a ranged weapon).

So if you are in a hurry to get them, your route would be:
Prisoner's Lodgings>Plaza of the Condemned
Prisoners' quarters>The Toxic Sewers
Prisoners' quarters>The Convict flat>The Ossuary
Prisoner's Lodgings>The Toxic Sewers>Ancient Sewers>Unbearable Gutter>Sleeping Sanctuary

You can't get them all at once, so when you get one, either continue or die and start over in the Prisoner's Lodgings. There is also the Rune of the Challenger which you unlock from the daily runs in the start zone and can be found after fighting the boss at the Black Bridge, but this is not needed for progression and you will eventually get it.

The Forge

The forge can be found after boss fights and only. There you can permanently upgrade your weapons to +,++ and S. In a run that you have 0 CDF (Boss Cells) you can only upgrade your weapons to +, in runs with 1-2 CDF you can upgrade to ++ and in runs with 3 CDF you can upgrade to S. Each upgrade of weapons or skills will give extra damage, and better and stronger affixes (the effects like +100% damage on burning enemies). Also, ++ upgrades will give you +1 to your attributes (Brutality, Tactics or Survival, the bonus will be in the attribute the item belongs to) and S upgrades will give +2. In the case of items that belong to 2 attributes, the attribute bonus will be randomly generated between these two attributes-for example, for the [Cursed Sword S] you can have +2 Tactics or +2 Brutality or +1 Tactics and +1 Brutality.

Chief Cell

The boss cells (CDF) are permanent unlocks that can make your game harder and more rewarding. They can be obtained by killing the current final boss, when you kill him you will receive a boss cell which will allow you to play on the next difficulty level where you have to kill the same boss again to gain access to the next difficulty and so on until you have 4 CDF. Each difficulty will make your enemies take more damage and have more HP(Life Points).Starting at difficulty 1 POD you will notice that enemies from other biomes have appeared in the biome you are in,and this will happen until the 3rd POD. At the 4th POD other types of enemies will be added in all the biomes, also, in this image, are the things that are affected by the POD.

Jump "Right on Time

When the player jumps a little bit late, for example after falling off the platform, the game allows the jump to be executed: This prevents great frustration, because without this, it seems that every jump is super difficult, and the player is falling every time because of a slightly delayed input.

Teleport" Landing

Similar to the "steer" the game gives you when jumping, it repeats the technique when landing. If the player lands a little off the platform, the game guesses what the player wanted to do and teleports him up the platform.

Automatic Parkour

When Dead Cells realized that it wanted to be an action and combat game, rather than a jumping and platforming game, it created a number of features to help the player play better and not get frustrated. Climbing platforms and small slopes in the terrain automatically added immense fluidity to the game.

Automatic turning

The game automatically rotates your character to the other side in certain situations. For example, if the player has landed facing to the right and pressed the attack button, but the enemy is on his left, "Dead Cells" automatically rotates the character, preventing an attack into the void.

Start, explore, die, learn and repeat

The most important point in Dead Cells is learning. Know the enemies you will encounter along the way, the dangers scattered throughout each stage, and most importantly, the weapons and equipment you will have access to. As in any roguelike, death will always be around and when it inevitably comes, be patient, try to understand what you learned in that game and prepare yourself not to make the same mistakes as before.

Also know that by killing enemies you can find cells and with them you can acquire a lot of items. The problem is that they can only be used after completing a stage and will be lost when you die. Therefore, it is often better to look for the exit of a stage than to continue exploring.

Invest carefully and think about the future

"But what should I buy with the cells," you may be wondering. The first tip is to invest in healing potions. Functioning as extra lives, they will be of great help when you are close to dying and can greatly extend the game. It is also worth keeping an eye on all the other available upgrades, such as one that saves some gold after you die, or one where items you don't care about can be turned into coins.

Another good deal is to think long-term. If there is an item in the store that requires a lot of souls but seems useful to you, start investing in it. In Dead Cells you can't leave the vendor without spending everything you have, so instead of buying all kinds of crap, you should put the remaining souls into something that can be more useful to you in the future.

Remember that the goal of the game is to make your character as strong as possible, and to do this you will have to suffer a lot. With time you will realize that what seemed very difficult before, now can be overcome with some ease and what we acquire with souls will play a key role in this process.

Still thinking about the following matches, the weapon diagrams that can be purchased with souls can also be very useful. After unlocking them, the respective items can be found randomly throughout the stages in future raids. So, if the seller has the diagram of that sword that you enjoyed using so much, it is worth making sure that it will appear in the next session.

Mutations and pitfalls

In addition to being able to spend the cells we find, the store between stages will also give us the right to acquire mutations. Functioning as perks, they can help us in many different ways, but at first, the most recommended is Revival. If the portions can serve as an extra life, what this mutation does is exactly that. Being saved by this little beauty when we least expect it will be very rewarding, and we just can't forget it until the item has already been used.

Something that can also help you a lot are the traps. Available in various types, they need time to be used again, but some mutations can shorten it considerably. Among them, the one I liked the most is the turrets. As the name suggests, they are a kind of machine gun that will shoot any enemy that gets within range, and believe me, they can get you out of very bad situations.

Besides being a target for enemies, who will attack them immediately, the firepower of this equipment can be very high, with the advantage that more than one can be left at the same time. The only thing you have to worry about is that to function these weapons need energy, which means that you need to be at a certain distance from them.

The runes and the new paths

One of the main elements of Dead Cells are the runes. They are what will grant us special abilities that will allow us to reach specific points in the scenarios and after finding them, our progress can become much easier. One of the few persistent upgrades in the game are the runes that give the title a metroidvania feel, and looking for them as soon as possible should be one of your main goals.

In all we will have five runes to find and below I will leave a brief description of them and where to find them:

Vine Rune - allows you to grow vines in small green patches - located in Promenade of the Condemned.

Teleportation Rune - allows teleportation in electrified coffins - located in Toxic Sewers.

Spider Rune - allows you to climb walls and jump from one to another - located in Slumbering Sanctuary

Ram Rune - allows you to break weak floors (marked with a sign) - located in Ossuary

Challenger Rune - grants access to the Daily Challenges - defeat the boss Incomplete One.

Take your time

Although Dead Cells has doors that close after a certain amount of time, at first don't try to reach them. All right, the rewards found in these rooms are good, but running is one of the most basic mistakes we can make in this game.

Try to explore the scenarios, get as many souls and equipment as possible, because this will be crucial to progress through the stages. After a few games and with your character getting stronger, you will be able to advance more quickly through the stages and eventually reach those doors.

And in the end, never forget that once you are dead, you go back to the beginning, so think carefully about your steps and take all the care in the world!

Restart, experiment, enjoy the journey and repeat

Never be afraid to experiment. A very common thing in Dead Cells is to fall into a comfort zone, always trying to find the same equipment as before and trying to repeat the steps of the previous game. Try to vary your actions, give a chance to a weapon that didn't seem very good to you, or go a different way.

But above all, try to enjoy the journey. This is not a game where you should aim for the end, but rather enjoy everything it has to offer. I know that the journey will be painful, I know that many times you will feel like throwing the controller at the wall, but believe me, the feeling of overcoming an enemy that defeated you previously or getting a more powerful weapon will be worth it. But when a death happens, it is simple: repeat!

Alternative Paths

As you progress through the game, you will unlock new permanent abilities that will give you access to new stages and new paths to the end. New weapons and items await you in these alternate stages, so be sure to explore them all!

Learn the attack patterns

Each monster and boss has its own set of attacks and timing. Once you learn these, you can anticipate attacks, dodge them, and defeat your opponents more easily.

Use your skills

In addition to your two weapons, you can equip powers and items such as grenades, turrets, and traps. They all have a reload time, so don't worry about ammunition and make the most of everything during each encounter.

Choose your battles

Do you see a room full of enemies dying to devour you for breakfast? No potions to take all the damage? Bad equipment? It is not necessary to kill every zombie and monster you meet along the way. Besides, you never know when a better weapon or chest might be waiting around the corner.

Tips and Tricks

Dead Cells is meant to be an incredibly difficult game. But while the combat is difficult to understand, there are some general tips that you should keep in mind when playing. Here are some tips and tricks to help you survive:

Treat every enemy like a boss - even ordinary enemies can kill you easily if you are not careful.

Use doors as battering rams - You can walk through doors to hit enemies, stunning them in the process.

Rolling - Roll to attack enemies after they attack, you can kill quickly this way.

Skill status is bad - Skill status is by far the worst in wual spend points.

Crush your enemies - Hold down the down button and the jump button while in the air and you will fall stepping on your enemies. This can be used for dodging or as an attack.

Don't be afraid to run - just like in Dark Souls, sometimes running to the next area is the best option you will have.
