Using Tank traps against AI
Tank Traps
Using Tank traps against AI. (a guide for beginners)
Important tip for beginners: The AI doesn’t destroy tank traps, it drives around them.
If one of your tank traps gets destroyed, it’s usually because of other units firing explosives near it, such as your own mortars or enemies using explosives to target your infantry.
You can use tank traps to seal off entire parts of the map from enemy tanks, just slap a machinegun behind the tank traps to stop the enemy infantry that walks through your tank traps.
This is just a small tool in your arsenal and works best when there are already tight chokepoints within the map itself, that you want to close down.
(Map used in this example)
If you close enough chokepoints, you can funnel all enemy tanks into your last one or two open driveable areas, where all your AT guns will be grouped to make a killzone.
The enemy’s tanks won’t be flanking you anymore.
Conclusion:
Tank traps are a powerful tool that can deter AI from accessing certain areas of the map entirely. It is reccomended to use them on small choke heavy 1v1 maps.
Large open area maps are harder to close down, as you would need to make a wall of tank traps, but that’s a big waste of time and I don’t recommend it.
I use this strategy often when playing OSHT and USF.
USF can access tank traps by default, OSHT needs a doctrine commander to build them.

Soviets and OKW can also build tank traps with doctrines, thus making the british the only faction that cannot build them. However I find that Soviets and OKW require to be played more aggressively to be viable, meanwhile USF and OSHT give you better defensive options.
