MCC login/sign-in loop issue
The Fix
The thing I WISH I read first before listening to the "official fix".
MCC PC Steam "Error encountered while signing into Xbox Live"
MCC PC "Error encountered while signing into XBOX Live"
MCC PC Steam "Error encountered while signing into Xbox Live"
Shot in the dark here, because I'm not sure if this will resolve your issue but it has helped with XBL Sign in problems in the past on Halo/PC. Make sure MCC PC is closed(Give the guy updoots/reddit awards if this helped and you wanna)After doing that, you'll want to go through each of them one by one and remove them. This is going to be annoying and take a little bit depending on how many are there, but make sure to get rid of each and everyone of them. Once you've done that, restart your computer and try booting up MCC again. Hopefully it should show you a fresh login page and not error out.
- Press Windows Key + R to open Run
- Type "control.exe keymgr.dll" and hit Enter. This should open Credential Manager
- Click "Windows Credentials"
- Scroll down to "Generic Credentials" and look for every single one that starts with "Xbl". This includes XblGrts, Xbl| and Xbl_Ticket.
Fix #2 if doing only the above didn't work:
This one is similar to the "official fix", but actually recommends a BLOODY BACK UP and MENTIONS the relevant files to restore your data.MCC PC "Error encountered while signing into XBOX Live"
I have a fix:(Same as above, give the guy updoots/reddit awards if this helped and you wanna)You should now be able to get back into the game with your original settings restored.
- Go to C:\Users\[username]\AppData\LocalLow
- Cut the MCC folder and paste it to a temporary location
- Launch the game again and re-sign into Xbox Live
- Exit the game, now to restore your settings
- You will notice the MCC folder was generated again in AppData\LocalLow
- Go to your backed up folder and locate the MCC/Saved/Config/WindowsNoEditor folder, and paste it to the new MCC folder in AppData\LocalLow and do the same for MCC/Config folder
Fix #3 (mentioned in comments):
https://steamcommunity.com/app/976730/discussions/0/596282228182548349/Alot of users are experiencing the following error:You can click the link above to go to the respective thread to give steam awards if this fix helped you.{"version":1,"currentRequests":101,"maxRequests":100,"periodInSeconds":600,"limitType":"Rate"}
FIX: If you're getting the error message above, the following should fix it:
- Start Halo MCC as you normally would
- Wait until the Xbox service login box pop up
- Type your credentials and log in
- When it closes and open a null black box, quickly press alt + f4
- Open the game again
This should get rid of the login box and bypass the error, you'll automatically log and go to the menu.
What microsoft suggests (as of writing)
They'll recommend deleting a folder.
DO NOT DO THIS
A possibility in this scenario will cause you to lose your configurations and all other game data. I will only be posting this info for integrity's sake ONLY. Similar method is already shown above in the 2nd fix.

When signing in with an account that has never played Halo: The Master Chief Collection before, you will be presented with a "Let this app access your info" prompt. If you declined this prompt, you will not be able to play. Some users are reporting they are unable to sign out at this point after selecting no. When trying to sign in again, the sign in window will attempt to appear, but result in an error and not allow a user to sign in.If you are stuck in this loop, you will need to to remove the webcache data contained in your Windows users AppData folder. Below are the steps to locate and remove the files to exit this loop:
1. Navigate to your local AppData's webcache folder at C:\Users\YourUserNameHere\AppData\LocalLow\MCC\Saved\webcache2. Delete all files in this location
- Alternatively, paste this into your explorer window bar: %userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow\MCC\Saved\webcache
- Launch the game
- Sign into the preferred Xbox network account and allow the app to access your info
If neither of the first two fixes help
Mention a possible alternative option with a source in the comments.
