Preface

For one reason or another, you probably wanna play Doom 2016 multiplayer. Fear not, it is still possible and still has an active playerbase, as shown by this recent video.

However, the playerbase is small, and you will most certainly see the same people playing day after day, so you will have to time your play sessions accordingly. This guide is meant to help prospective players do so.

How to connect to active servers

Most current regular players, if not all of them, play on EU and NA servers.
If you're not located in Europe or North America, you'll need to manually switch to the EU or NA servers. To switch servers, navigate to the bottom or press R by default, and then click your desired region.

Previously, EU was the region that was most popular, but NA has had some full lobbies recently as well

Please note: You will have to do this every time you launch the game because it defaults to AUTO.

On top of this, there are peak times for playing. An easy way to figure out the best time for you to start playing is looking at the player charts on Steam Charts[steamcharts.com]. Below is an example of the peak times, which I utilize to play multiplayer.

What gamemodes are active?

Simply put, Team Play is the most active section, as it contains the most gamemodes.

Steam groups for finding games

When I was first starting my journey of completing all the multiplayer achievements I searched the Steam Community for groups dedicated to playing DOOM 2016 multiplayer, and the two best sources for arranging matches that I've found were the following:

NEX Legacy of Slayers

The official DOOM 2016 group chat[//] (you might have to open this link in your browser outside of Steam)

These both still have a few active people in them, and you can usually check the member lists to see who is playing DOOM.

Conclusion

Hopefully this helps you start playing multiplayer, as it would be nice to see the playerbase inflate a bit.

Have fun and happy fragging!
