Tips for launch pad

English is not my native language so maybe there are some mistakes.

Place launch pad in vacuum if possible. The heat, CO2 and steam will dissipate very fast.

Use 3-4 jet suit docks + one jet suit dock for every rocket used.

Place the Gantry at the base of Command Capsule (see the picture)

The base of launch pad

Use bunker doors as the base of launch pad. Atmo Sensor is used to open/close the doors without a dupe. Set it above/below 5000 g and open/close the doors when you need it.
The cover of launch pad
In the pictures you can see how I am covering the spaceport.
Automation for Inner Gate
Atmo Sensor Set above 5000 g. Use it to open/close the inner bunker doors and to open/close the Gantry. This way you don’t need a dupe to open/close the doors. At moment I haven't found a way to open/close the gantry without my intervention. When you open the gantry dupes can embark/disembark and the inner doors are closed.

Not Gate

Automation Wires You can use iron. Replace melted wires with steel (this way you save some steel).

Automation for Outer Gate[/b1]

2x Space Scanners – Optional. They will open/close the doors when meteor showers occur. They will open the door when your rocket will return even it is showering with meteors. Set one to detect meteor shower and the other to detect your rocket. See the automation image. I am using outer gate not to get entombed rockets because I missed their return. However, entombed engine is a problem just in case of steam engine as it will cease fuel delivery (steam engine is in same time steam fuel tank). When rockets take off or land they will clear regolith. If you dont have steel you may skip it.

Or Gate

Not Gate for Meteor Space Scanner. Even 0% quality scan is enough.
I used steel for automation.

Automation Wires You can use iron. Replace melted wires with steel (this way you save some steel).

Flight Duration

Every 10000 km requires 3 Cycles.
10000 km – 3 Cycles
20000 km – 6 Cycles
…..
180000 km – 54 Cycles.

Rocket navigation skill gives you 10% rocket navigation efficiency.

Liquid Oxygen & Hydrogen Factory

This set up is based on various factories seen on Internet.

Place the factory in vacuum for a better heat management and near Hydrogen consuming rockets to save ceramics.

Steam Turbine Room

I am using the cooling system of the Oxygen Room to maintain the temperature of the turbine (the super coolant in pipes is -202oC so flood the chamber with Hydrogen because it will turn liquid at -252 oC).
Steam Turbine – steel. For the floor I used ceramic tiles and for the rest of the walls I used igneous rock.

Steam Room

Pump water in the room to be able to generate steam. Before steam pressure reach 50kg cut the water from other sources and let the steam turbine to provide the water.

In second run I used just steel because first asteroid with niobium was at 130000 kilometers.

2xLiquid pipe thermo sensor – I used thermium. You can use steel if you lower the temperature in Oxygen and Hydrogen rooms step by step. You generate a lot of heat just when you start the factory as you will lower the temperature of super coolant from 30oC to -203oC and - 255oC. After that in the steam room the temperature will be around 125oC and most of the time steam turbine will be idle because the steam will be too cold to start the turbine.
For Hydrogen room set the sensor at - 255oC and for Oxygen room set the sensor at -203oC.
2xLiquid shutoff – I used thermium but steel can do it.
2xThermo aquatuner – I used thermium but steel can do it.
2xLiquid reservoir – I used thermium but steel can do it.
Liquid vent – I used thermium but steel can do it.
Manual airlock – I used thermium but steel can do it.
Automation wires – I used thermium but steel can do it.
Thempshift plates and Drywalls. I used sedimentary rock.
Heavy watt conductive wires – I used steel.
Insulated liquid pipes – I used ceramic.
Insulated tiles – I used ceramic. You will need a lot of ceramic.
Super coolant In the following picture you can see how i deliver the super coolant to pipes.

Hydrogen Room & Oxygen Room Pump hydrogen and oxygen in the rooms until no other gases are in the rooms then seal the rooms and start the factory.
2xHigh pressure vent - I used thermium but steel will do it as the temperature will be bellow -200 oC.
2xLiquid pump – I used thermium but steel can do it.
Radiant liquid pipes – I used thungsten.
Wires and Automation wires – steel
2xAtmo sensors – Iron. Set them to 5000 g and use them to enable or disable the pumps to deliver fuel to rockets.
Insulated liquid pipes – I used igneous rock. They are used to deliver liquid oxygen and hydrogen to ships. If liquid oxygen or hydrogen remains in the pipes after the tanks are full, they will break. Therefore I created a loop so any surplus of liquid oxygen or hydrogen can return to their rooms.
2xLiquid vent – I used thermium but steel can do it. You need them just if you create the loops to allow liquid gases to return to their rooms.

Steam Engine Rocket Generation

You need to research: Basic Rocketry, Jetpacks and Celestial Detection.
In guide https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1635885751 you can an easy way to generate steam to power this generation of rockets. As steam is cheap I am flying with tank full of steam.

Steam Research Rocket

Configuration

Steam Engine (first to build)
5xResearch Module – One visit is enough to explore the visited asteroid
Command Capsule (last to build)

Use it to explore asteroids near your base and to get data bank for Solid Fuel Combustion. If the rocket is too long for your launch pad, you can use same fuel amount for 2-3 research modules.

After you researched Solid Fuel Combustion.

Steam with Thruster Research Rocket
Up to 20000 km.

You need to research Solid Fuel Combustion.

Configuration

Steam Engine
Solid Fuel Thruster
5xResearch Module
Command Capsule
Use it to explore asteroids near your base and to get data bank for further research.

Steam with Thruster Cargo Rocket
Up to 10000 km

Configuration

Steam Engine

Solid Fuel Thruster

Cargo Bay (You need Solid Cargos research) or Gas Cargo Canister (You need Liquid and Gas Cargos research) or Liquid Cargo Tank (You need Liquid and Gas Cargos research). In my game all asteroids with gas or liquid resources were +40000km so they were out of steam rockets range. I went for Hydrocarbon Combustion research first so I was able to get Petroleum Engine Rocket Generation and then I researched Solid Cargos. The other cargos were last to research in my case. Probably you will use this rocket after you launched your first petroleum engine rocket generation.

Command Capsule

Use it to explore asteroids near your base and to get Niobium (used to get Thermium= +900 Celsius Degrees Overheat Temperature), Fullerene (used to get Super Coolant), Isoresin(used to get Insulation and Visco Gel) and various normal resources. In my game, I found Niobium and Fullerene on asteroids in 10000 km range. Niobium and Fuellerne may help you to construct the factory to get liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen for last engine rocket generation.

Petroleum Engine Rocket Generation

You need to research: Hydrocarbon Combustion

You need to construct Oxylite Refinery.

Use an Auto-Sweeper to put Oxyline in Storage Bin. Place the Storage Bin under water so Oxylite won’t evaporate. If possible use Automation (Smart Storage Bin) to shut down Oxylite Refinery after you got the necessary Oxylite quantity to save power.

Up to 90000 km

Configuration
Petroleum Engine
Liquid Fuel Tanks
Solid Oxidizer Tank
1xResearch Module Up to 90000 km with 2700 Kg of Petroleum and 2700 Kg of Oxylite.
Command Capsule

I like round figures so the fuel quantities are a little bit higher than displayed ranges require.
To reach to 80000 Km asteroids with 5 Research Modules you need 2600 Kg of Petroleum (3 fuel tanks) and 2600 Kg of Oxylite.
To reach to 70000 Km asteroids with 5 Research Modules you need 2145 Kg of Petroleum and 2145 Kg of Oxylite.

To reach to 50000 Km asteroids with 5 Research Modules you need 1400 Kg of Petroleum and 1400 Kg of Oxylite.
To reach to 40000 Km asteroids with 5 Research Modules you need 1100 Kg of Petroleum and 1100 Kg of Oxylite.
To reach to 30000 Km asteroids with 5 Research Modules you need 800 Kg of Petroleum (1 fuel tank) and 800 Kg of Oxylite.
If the rocket is too long for your launch pad, you can use same fuel amount for 3 research modules or you can do the math to save some Oxylite as Petroleum is not a problem.

Petroleum-Oxylite Cargo Rocket
Up to 68000 km

Configuration
Petroleum Engine
3xLiquid Fuel Tank
Solid Oxidizer Tank
1xCargo Bay – Up to 68000 km. 2xCargo Bay – Up to 28000 km. 3xCargo Bay – The rocket won’t fly (with full tanks).
Command Capsule

To reach to 60000 Km asteroids with 1 Cargo you need 2100 Kg of Petroleum (3 fuel tanks) and 2100 Kg of Oxylite.
To reach to 50000 Km asteroids with 1 Cargo you need 1600 Kg of Petroleum (2 fuel tanks) and 1600 Kg of Oxylite.
To reach to 40000 Km asteroids with 1 Cargo you need 1230 Kg of Petroleum and 1230 Kg of Oxylite.
To reach to 30000 Km asteroids with 1 Cargo you need 900 Kg of Petroleum (1 fuel tank) and 900 Kg of Oxylite.

After you get Liquid Oxygen using Liquid Oxidizer Tank. You will use it probably after you will launch your first hydrogen engine rocket generation.

Configuration

Petroleum Engine
Liquid Fuel Tanks
Liquid Oxidizer Tank – 2700 Kg Liquid Oxygen
1xCargo Bay – Up to 104000 km. 2xCargo Bay – Up to 64000 km. 3xCargo Bay – The rocket won’t fly (with full tanks).

To reach to 70000 Km asteroids with 1 Cargo you need 1580 Kg of Petroleum (2 fuel tanks) and 1580 Kg of Liquid Oxygen.
To reach to 60000 Km asteroids with 1 Cargo you need 1320 Kg of Petroleum (2 fuel tanks) and 1320 Kg of Liquid Oxygen.
To reach to 60000 Km asteroids with 2 Cargos you need 2200 Kg of Petroleum and 2200 Kg of Liquid Oxygen.
To reach to 50000 Km asteroids with 2 Cargos you need 1620 Kg of Petroleum (2 fuel tanks) and 1620 Kg of Liquid Oxygen.
To reach to 40000 Km asteroids with 2 Cargos you need 1250 Kg of Petroleum (2 fuel tanks) and 1250 Kg of Liquid Oxygen.
To reach to 30000 Km asteroids with 2 Cargos you need 940 Kg of Petroleum (2 fuel tanks) and 940 Kg of Liquid Oxygen.

I am using Petroleum Cargo Rockets mainly to get Steel from asteroids.

Hydrogen Engine Rocket Generation

You need to research CryoFuel Combustion and to build Liquid Oxygen and Liquid Hydrogen “Factory”. If you haven’t figure how to get Liquid Oxygen/Hydrogen, you can find a guide on Internet and pray for a Hydrogen Geyser on your map. Use ceramic for liquid pipes and avoid to let some oxygen/hydrogen in pipes or they will break.

Hydrogen Research Rocket

Configuration
Hydrogen Engine
2xLiquid Fuel Tank
Liquid Oxidizer Tank
5xResearch Module
Command Capsule

To reach to 110000 Km asteroids with 5 Research Modules you need 1480 Kg of Liquid Hydrogen Kg and 1480 Kg of Liquid Oxygen.
To reach to 100000 Km asteroids with 5 Research Modules you need 1340 Kg of Liquid Hydrogen Kg and 1340 Kg of Liquid Oxygen.
For under 100000 km range asteroids use petroleum to research as is easier to get.
If the rocket is too long for your launch pad, you can use same fuel amount for 3 research modules too because you won’t lose a lot of fuel.

Hydrogen Cargo Rocket
