Viva New Vegas Linux

GUIDE HAS BEEN MOSTLY RE-WRITTEN, IT SHOULD NOW BE WAY MORE USER FRIENDLY AND HOPEFULLY LESS BUGGY! GOG AND EPIC GAMES STORE VERSION LIKELY WON'T WORK. I WILL TRY AND ADD INSTRUCTIONS FOR GOG IN THE FUTURE.

THIS GUIDE WORKS ON STEAM DECK! I HAVE TESTED MYSELF.

Jackify is an unofficial Linux version of the Wabbajack

It is only released as an appimage (though there is an aur version for arch users, it is not official)

Simply download the appimage, right click it, click Properties, then go to Permissions and check "Allow executing file as program"

or if you want to make it executable through your terminal
(the directory depends on where you put the appimage)

Within Jackify, click Modlist Tasks, then click Install a Modlist. Set the Game Type option in the top left to Fallout New Vegas, to the right of that should be Modlist, use the menu to search for Viva New Vegas.

Set your Modlist Name to Viva New Vegas, the Install Directory default should be fine, so should the Downloads Directory.

The Install Directory default should be:

Ensure the Resolution matches your monitors in the bottom left option.

Then you're ready, click Start Installation! (This might also configure the modlist aswell, I have no way of knowing as I am not a premium Nexus Mods user to test this)

Open the Jackify AppImage file, when open click Additional Tasks, then click Install Wabbajack, the defaults should be perfectly fine with the directory and shortcut name.

The shortcut name by default will be Wabbajack, and the directory by default will be
Just click Start Installation and it should setup Wabbajack for you as a non-steam game shortcut!

DISCLAIMER: THE WEBVIEW IN WABBAJACK IS BUGGY WITH VISUALS, THIS DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING SO IT'S BEST TO JUST IGNORE IT. YOU ALSO NEED A CLEAN INSTALL OF FALLOUT NEW VEGAS FOR THE WABBAJACK TO WORK. RUN THE GAME BEFORE DOING ANYTHING ELSE

Open your now properly configured Wabbajack and login to your Nexus Mods account.

Once Logged in look up Viva New Vegas on Wabbajack, once you've found it, install it.

It'll ask for a directory to install it in. I recommend giving Viva New Vegas it's own directory

The downloads folder should just be inside the Viva New Vegas folder too

Proceed to installation from there, If you don't have a premium account you'll have to click OK and wait for every mod download.

If installation fails click retry and it will download any missing mods.

Once Viva New Vegas is downloaded, in Jackify click Modlist Tasks. Then click Configure New Modlist (Post-Download). Set the Modlist Name to Viva New Vegas, then set the directory to the Viva New Vegas MO2 .exe file.

Make sure the Resolution option in the bottom left of the menu is set to your monitors resolution.

Once you have made sure everything is good, click Start Configuration, this should add Viva New Vegas to Steam as a non-steam game.

Once Viva New Vegas is done downloading, you will need to modify your games root folder.

Copy every file from __Files Requiring Manual Install into the games root folder.

DELETE FNVpatch.exe IT WON'T WORK! Despite the fact that Proton already gives games full hardware environment awareness, Viva New Vegas seems to crash without the 4GB Patch, the Windows version will not work. Extract the archive for the Linux version and place the file in the New Vegas directory, double click and if you see FalloutNV_backup.exe then the patcher worked!

For the BSA Decompressor, instead of using the bundled program, we will instead use Universal MPI Installer, as it is much easier to use then the provided BSA Decompressor for Windows DO NOT GET RID OF IT THOUGH, YOU WILL STILL NEED IT FOR THIS.

Once it is downloaded, extract the .zip file and open ttw_linux_gui, the program will then ask for a mpi file, click Browse and direct it to or

Set Fallout NV Path to your Fallout New Vegas directory
Set the Output Folder

You now have everything installed! But there's now some setup to do.

Launch the Viva New Vegas shortcut in Steam, it will launch you into MO2, in MO2 select Fallout Launcher in the top right and run.

Select the Ultra Preset if you're computer is good enough to run the game on Ultra, if not try Medium.

Set the resolution to your monitors resolution.

If you don't get the right resolution in the launcher:

Exit the Launcher

Click the Puzzle pieces icon at the top of MO2

Select the FalloutPrefs.ini tab.

Change the Display Settings:
iSize W = screen width

iSize H = screen height

Now, in MO2 in the top right select New Vegas, this is where you will launch the game from now on.

This should be everything! Enjoy Viva New Vegas on your Linux system! I recommend using Proton Experimental as that seems to be what works best.

Potential Issue: Make sure fallout.ini is set to read & write perms and not readonly perms
right click Fallout.ini and in permissions make sure they're read & write.

Potential Issue: If you have an error where the Fallout Launcher displays an Install button only, this is because right filepaths are not configured, this issue is common if you have the game installed on a different storage drive to your operating system.

To fix this you must specify the path to the wine prefix and the path to the storage drive you have the game installed on in the launch options for the Viva New Vegas shortcut on Steam.

If using the GOG version of the game with Heroic Games Launcher, you must also use this on the Viva New Vegas Steam shortcut, except for the STEAM_COMPAT_MOUNTS command unless you also have it installed on a storage drive the operating system isn't installed on.

Comment if you have any issues or if anything needs to be updated. I will not answer every issue as I don't have the ability to access your Linux system for myself and find out what's wrong.
