WARTHOG MARTIAL ARTS X, a cold dishonorable glass guide
if you're an insectoid unfeeling person, here's how to turn fun into hate
cause i know if you read this on steam you probably use steam and are a proper pc gamer, mouse and keyboard, you will feel like you have max potential for this game, we'll start with interceptions
i'm going for a pit
the only option you really can count on when chasing and trying to flip the opponent is a hard side impact with less speed than your mark. you need to count on a reliable speed, and movement trending towards your direction from the opponent to close distance n time and reliably dig under for a flip. minding terrain is always essential when doing movement based attacks, and you want no snagging on objects or bumps from other cars unless it propels you towards the target.
blast off
the first of low honor lethal attacks, it's... a rocket... A good 6 meter blast radius with a soft bloom of blast radius, a stable speed not much more than a freshly thrown grenade. aiming requires oneness with lag and good assumption skills for the warthogs movement on given spaces. aiming for the leading edge and sides can offer a flip, and hitting close but indirect betters your chance of no landing.
small arms
fighting on foot in 4x health demands pure accuracy, close range, or a blow to the back, and any gun will do to offend someone in a turret towards getting behind the wheel or choosing to face you on their own feet. to fight with melee only is a strafing ordeal best handled with unpredictability, even with lag a wild swing can land a killing blow. in any of the games i make, the weapons available on the ground or just on spawning dictate what sort of gameplay i expect the warthog martial artist to have when in a low honor lobby.
mastering the air
to fly and land is to never stop the music, and to take a flip or a rocket and land is to never stop dancing. with a mouse can perform rapid turns regardless of the low traction the four wheel drive beasts have, and in a small amount of spae, with good speed, you can start a spin off an edge or ramp. gyroscopically, you may count on a nearly level flight on your path, but you lack any control over the arc, just your spin and speed may carry you to whatever fate, keep your foot on the pedal.
man vs hog
to dodge the warthog is to bait the bull, and to run over the spartan is to cover as much ground as fast as possible. when on foot you should watch your radar and witness their trajectory, and keep an eye out for multiple enemy signatures. the world is your friend when your enemy is a fast moving vehicle, use rocks, cliffs, and corners to force a hog to go where you want, and use empty ones to cause a flip if they hit at a disadvantage. the most fearsome part of the moving warthog is every part, you can die just touching a nudged one, but if you have to come close but try to survive, try crouch-jumps over the hood, just watch out for the turret.
honor be damned
running over your opponents is typically the path to success in this combat based game, because the race gamemode sucks. some flips with high velocity can be expected to eject a passenger before the speeding hog as the victim is spun so hard, but you can count on flung spartans and quick attempts at recovery in a heated game, and to be a spinning machine of death must be your goal if you want to kill them. swing the hog like you're aiming to spin off a cliff, pull donuts and drifts like it's the only way from one place to another, and there will be no dodging you, just watch out for the other driver looking to flip you out of the way.
get that bastard in the turret
taking out someone in a gunners seat requires distractions or excellent timing, and staying on the ground. flipping is easy on a stationary warthog, but you don't want to mess this up more than a few times, you can count on being shot many times or blown up and killed if you agitate and fail. bait and switch many times in a row, dont look for the reaction because if it's a rocket you want to see, you'll watch it fly right into you. just like dodging warthogs, you need to be unpredictable at key moments, and moving so hard requires great vigilance to the terrain and your traction on it.
eyes on the horizon
make no mistake, you will be chased, never drive forever without looking over your shoulder. avoiding interceptions and rockets may bring you closer to them, but getting the information is often worth the gamble. if nothing else, scanning your surroundings is an excuse for a high speed turn, but try not to stop moving.
head on
mind your pace, watch the radar, and the nose of your opponent, it's time to joust them out of their seat. head to head, warthogs can only flip eachother when ones nose is lower than the other, or ones tire pries that nose up just enough to get under the others wheel. an honorable joust on level ground is counting on the latest braking, or the most precise tire placement, beyond level ground you are playing with many factors, may the sharpest see the outcome just before it can't be avoided.
make your choice
honor or not, when you win the physics interaction, as long as it's not just you and another you will need to get moving, combat is combat and it's rarely so over.pictures of good times
