How to get cyber-demonic armor fast via sector boosting to get last achievement for 100%

Goal

The goal of this guide is to help you (and your friends, or the friends you're about to make) calmly and efficiently reach Echelon VIII, then complete a 15 killstreak challenge.

Why?

To earn both of the last multiplayer achievements, you'll need to play multiplayer wearing Robotic armor and/or Cyber-Demonic armor pieces. These armor pieces are earned through leveling to 50 multiple times, i.e. reaching higher "echelons," leveling to 50 in each echelon.

Like most any other armor pieces, pieces from these categories unlock without any conscious thought if you reach a high enough echelon. But they're accessible a few echelons early if you complete corresponding multiplayer challenges. Echelon VIII is the first to open up challenges for cyber-demonic armor, such as 15-kill massacre killstreak, which is a straightforward single-round way of getting that armor.

So you can ignore the challenges for robotic armor. You'll be going for Echelon VIII anyway, and by then, you'll have access to robotic armor without even thinking about their challenges.

Disclaimer

This path to 100% achievement completion will appeal most to players who love moving as a coordinated team, and/or love that feeling of finding an efficient "line" in racing games, but compared to "normal" matches this involves virtually no gunplay.

The upside is that it's stupendously efficient (on the order of ~1 echelon per hour), and when done well, even lets you multitask with whatever other streaming show/video you'd rather be paying attention to instead.

Method, summarized

  1. Group up with like-minded people to boost with. Don't worry, this guide will try to help you find how to do that, too.
  2. Get into a team lobby to play Sector.
  3. Extract the first pair of sectors, which are virtually always too far apart from each other for this to be efficient. Keep the team score the same whenever possible.
  4. Determine whether to extract or use whatever pairings you get. See "extract or use?" section for more details on that.
  5. When you get a good pairing, have each team secure one, then as a group, swap places. Don't let either sector actually extract.
  6. Dance back and forth like that, even as the timer ticks down to the end.
  7. You kept the teams' score tied the whole round? Great, then you can go into triple overtime with your hard-earned close-together sector pairing.

Making friends

Multiplayer lobbies need a minimum of 4 players to start a round, so you can't solo this method.

Find a group of like-minded achievement hunters. For example, when someone spoke up on a Steam community discussion thread asking about 100%-ing this game ( https://steamcommunity.com/app/379720/discussions/0/2146469724207971709/ ) a Steam group was created. One of its members discovered another already-existing group, and suddenly all the members of both could work together.

If you can't find anyone, try manually setting your multiplayer server region to somewhere having its off-peak hours (e.g. if you're in NA, manually set your region to Asia-Pacific while they're asleep). If you're lucky, you can stumble upon a group of sector boosters and join them.

Team lobbying up in off-peak region to play Sector

This method is resilient enough that it can deal with 1 (or at worst, maybe 2) uncooperative, disruptive randomly-joining players, but it's simpler with an empty lobby only occupied by you and your sector-boosting friends.

To get that, manually set region to one having its off-peak hours. E.g. if you're in NA, try setting your region to Asia-Pacific while they're sleeping. Try finding a multiplayer match with Sector as the map. If you get anything else, back out and try again.

When someone in the boosting group does get sector, and they announce it to the rest, try joining through the normal "find game" menu. If your region is set to the same off-peak one, much of the time you'll get matched up with them.

If necessary, you can right-click their name in Steam and press "join game," but that'll ingame-party up with them. You want at least 1 player not partied up ingame, because if you're all in the same party, there's a too-high likelihood the matchmaking system will lump your whole group together and toss them into a completely different lobby & gamemode with room for that many players.

Extracting or using?

The first pair of sectors will almost always be too far from each other.

After that, you've got multiple tries to get sectors close enough together to make this method efficient.

Avoid stepping on or securing new sectors as they appear until after both appear. Keeping sectors grey makes for a calmer time evaluating how close they are.
* If they're close enough, we'll use that pair.
* If not, extract until you get a good pairing.

When extracting, it's up to you players to decide whether to extract both (which is the simplest way to coordinate and keep team score even for messy teams), or keep one (either leaving it grey, which is simplest, or swapping back and forth between teams too frequently for it to extract, which is more complicated but doable) while trading out extractions of each "other sector" until you get a close pairing.

Ideally you also want the path between them to be devoid of healing/armor pickups, or have them be easy enough to avoid, so you can get a movement speed bonus out of the evasion rune.

A couple of great sector pairing examples include:

  • Empyrian: top mid & the sector only one short walking bridge & a corner turn away from it
  • Helix: upstairs and downstairs in the center room with the short flight of not-steep stairs

Once you have sectors you want to keep, if you or your team gets out of sync and you didn't completely secure a point before the entire other team's walking over, don't stubbornly stay there. Get _someone_ onto the sector they all just secured & vacated before it gets extracted. Otherwise everyone loses out on the close pairing.

Likewise, if you're experiencing bad lag, or need to take a moment to step away from the computer or type chat to someone, step out of both sectors and leave your character in the hallway between them. As a last resort the opposing team may have to gun you down to make you vacate a sector and keep the engine humming.

What to equip and why

  • Equip the Evasion rune and a self-damaging weapon such as the rocket launcher. Self-damage to <75 health+armor and you'll get a movement bonus. This is why we don't want to pick up health or armor during the swaps back & forth between sectors.
  • Equip a chaingun and keep it spinning for an easy-to-get challenge completion.
  • Equip boot thrusters, both to make traversals between mediocre pairings easier & to get airtime challenges.
  • Alternatively, equip teleporter. Try to be considerate about where you aim and use the thing so you don't telefrag one of your sector boosting buddies.

Etiquette: Giving back to those who helped along the way

Once you've earned your achievement, be a decent human being and stick around with the boosting group for at least awhile longer to ensure the players who helped you get your achievement can get it themselves.

At the very least, keep an eye on their text chat to see if they need you to join a lobby to be a 4th player so they can start matches, or to fill a playerslot so a rando can't join and wreck everything.

That way you may not even need to stay at your computer or be actively playing to stay helpful to the group. It's a good way of saying "thank you" to everyone who helped you.

Etiquette: when a random player joins

  • Try type-chatting to them first. Between talking & seeing your behavior, they may understand what's up & join in, which is the best-case scenario. You want as many people in the boosting group as possible, both to occupy player slots and to keep the boosting group alive longer-term after some of you inevitably earn your achievement.
  • If the rando is uncooperative and unskilled, you can try simply killing them when they get in the way. 1 disruptive player can often be dealt with by your entire team showing up in a room simultaneously, and enough of that may discourage them enough to want to leave on their own.
  • If they're disruptive enough to make you lose your sector pairing and/or make the score uneven, you can either accept not being able to go into overtime, or simply all quit and let them find their next lobby of players.

Earning cyber-demonic armor "early" (now that you've hit Echelon VIII)

This step's the easy "victory lap." There's multiple challenges which can get you cyber-demonic armor, but since you're already grouped up with friends, this one's simplest:

  • Be at echelon VIII
  • Start up an empty (i.e. likely off-peak region) free-for-all deathmatch lobby the same way you'd been doing for Sector, so a rando doesn't join in and prematurely end your killstreak
  • Promise your boosting buddies you'll stick around for them after they help you get the 15 killstreak achievement (you did read this guide's section on etiquette, right?)
  • Kill 15 of them in a row without dying yourself (simplest if they just constantly run to the center of the map)
  • Finally, after 15 kills in a row, have one of them kill you to "complete" that streak.
