The True-Slayer Challenge

The Main Stipulation

If you've played DOOM on nightmare multiple times, and it's just not giving you enough of a challenge anymore, or you just want a new, refreshing way to play singleplayer, you might enjoy this challenge.

The basic idea is this is ALMOST a no-upgrade run. But we're gonna let a few things be upgraded so this doesn't become a slog to play.

The most important part about this challenge is absolutely no weapon mods.
-No upgrades to either maximum health or armor.
-Only 1 rune is allowed as well.
-(Suit upgrades are a case-by-case basis)

What this essentially will do is force you to think on your feet a lot more than you would normally. While Doom 2016 normally allows you to just pick a weapon and start shooting, this makes you pay a lot more attention to which weapon you need to use for each specific situation.
(In my experience, it really re-contextualized how I played the game.)

Playing on nightmare is also recommended (It's how I played it), although not necessarily required if you don't think you're quite ready for it.

OK, so what CAN we upgrade?

While a straight-forward "No upgrades" run would be more obvious, this challenge was designed so that you can still actually enjoy the game. So there are a few upgrades that are allowed.

You are allowed to fully upgrade only one weapon... the pistol.
This is mostly so that it becomes at least slightly viable, kind of adding to the whole "right-weapon-for-right-situation" dynamic this is built around.

You cannot upgrade the Super Shotgun. I know it doesn't technically have any weapon mods, but we're gonna leave it at its base functionality, so it doesn't become over-powered. I said you were allowed only one rune- and that's the Vacuum Rune. None others. This is just to alleviate some frustration.
There are two categories of your suit that you are allowed to fully upgrade- Equipment and Dexterity. Equipment we're allowing for the same reason as allowing you to upgrade the pistol, to keep it viable in the flow of combat. (Believe me, you'll be using your equipment a lot more with this challenge than you normally would) And you can go ahead and upgrade dexterity so that you don't end up with a bunch of unfair deaths. (Just don't bother getting hotswap, for obvious reasons)

You are allowed to fully upgrade your Ammo capacity. This is mostly because the later parts of the game really assumed you would've upgraded this by then.

Enjoy, and tell me what you think!

Like I said, this challenge is obviously supposed to be difficult, but it's more about changing how you play the game in order to give a fresh experience, rather than just give a blanket stipulation over the whole thing.

So, if you're up for it, (and perhaps want an interesting new way to replay the game in preparation for Doom Eternal) give it a whirl and tell me how you handled it, if you enjoyed it, etc.

EDIT:
-A frequent question I get on this challenge is "why not just do a total no upgrade run?" or something along those lines.
I think it's important to clarify that the point of this challenge actually isn't so much the "challenge" factor. It is harder, but the reason I came up with this was to get people to change how they play the game.

Like I said, this was designed so that it's still just forgiving enough that you can still... actually enjoy the game.
But hey, if you like the really masochistic challenges, that's fine, but this isn't one of 'em.
