Mass Item Locations (WIP)
Books/Magazines/Fliers - Louiseville, Westpoint, Muldragh
Houses are the most common place people think of to find the XP multiplier books they need to boost their skills, but what if there was a better spot that any person could look in? Well, fortunately there is, and here is a list of just such spots.
If you get tired of looking for the few books you're still missing and want a spot that is more likely to have exactly what you need, rather than going from house to house hoping the RNG gods favor you, then here is a list of places with LOADS of books to increase your chances of finding EXACTLY what you need.
Post Offices only give magazines and fliers as of build 42.
https://map.projectzomboid.com/#12819x1312x6269
- Cardinal Plaza - A build in Northeast Louiseville, it is a lime green building on the map which is a hollow circle with a fountain/tiny body of water in the middle. It's in the very north part of LV next to the river, 1 block away from the river on Jackson street. There is a bookstore inside on the bottom floor.
https://map.projectzomboid.com/#12586x3582x11324
- Maps Unlimited - It doesn't have a lot, mostly it has maps rather than books, magazines, or fliers, but it is next to a large warehouse, as well as it has a single water cooler, and if you've based nearby it is a good spot to uncover larger areas of the map. It's in northwest LV. If you find 5th street, which is the very western and northern street in the city, and follow it down until you find Liberty Street, it's the second building from the left, lime green on the map, to the left of a gas station.
https://map.projectzomboid.com/#12204x1636x1475
- Brooks Public Library - In northern LV, by the river there is a pointed piece of land jutting out in the middle of the river on the north river going east in northern LV, if you find that pointed piece of land and follow it 2 blocks south down 1st avenue to Jefferson street, on the corner is the Brooks Public Library, with a LARGE stash of books for reading. If that's too hard to find, the very left street in the NW corner of LV is 5th street, follow it down to Smoky street, and just follow Smoky street east until it turns into Jefferson street, and the library is 4 blocks east of 5th street.
https://map.projectzomboid.com/#12566x1472x3811
- The Grand Ohio Mall, in the very North East corner of LV - A large lime green building on the map, right beside the Ohio river, the easiest way to get to it is by driving up the very left side of LV beside the river until you hit the very NW corner of LV, then drive straight east following the road along the river. It's a mostly straight drive from there, really difficult to get lost.
https://map.projectzomboid.com/#13538x1388x1665
- Louiseville University Library -
- In western WP, it's one of the few purple buildings on the map, not near anything other than khaki colored residential houses. It's a large building close to, but not right on, the edge of town. It's on Oak street, between 9th street and 10th street, two streets going north-south. South of Ohio Drive, and a small grocery store, which is lime green on the map. It's the second purple building from the western edge of town.
Westpoint - A school on the west end of town, it's fairly large and also a good place to dismantle desks for wood. If you're playing pre patch 42, it's a good way to level carpentry by dismantling desks.[/tr]

Books/Magazines/Fliers - Riverside, Marchridge, Rosetown
- Enigma Bookstore. It's on the main road in the downtown area of Riverside, and the main road is immediately beside and adjacent to the river. It's in the middle of the downtown area. Find the river and you'll find the main road.

- A school, second road in away from the river. It's all near the river, so that isn't specific enough to describe where it is. The main road through the town is right next to the river and goes along the rivers shores. It's right beside and a block south of the downtown area of Riverside, among residential houses.

- Only one school. The very western corner of the centre of town, in the downtown area where the stores are. It's on the very "north" edge of town, so just take your immediate left entering town from the north (there's only one road leading in) and keep going left on the main road until you hit the military apartments, which are across the street from the Cinema. The apartments are the first buildings you'll run into, and it's directly on the other side.

VHS
There are a few VHS which will give you a skill level or XP that aren't obviously named as XP multiplier VHS.
If you're new and asking, "Why would I want to waste time getting VHS tapes?" Well, it's because VHS tapes make it easier to level your skills if your main character dies, or if you're playing Multiplayer and your friend starts a new character and they no longer have Life and Living to watch to gain any skill points. It's not practical to get for when Life and Living is still on, since unless you're lucky enough to spawn right next to a VHS store (which most you can't spawn next to), you usually have to go far to find them. They just make starting new characters in an old world that much easier to level, and when dying is a main staple of the game, time is precious and levelling a.s.a.p can mean the difference between life and death. It's your choice if you choose to get them, some people might prefer the o' naturale route, but it does make subsequent characters a little bit easier. VHS stores just happen to be where they are most concentrated, so you don't have to waste as much time going from house to house hoping you'll find something new and turning up nothing.
All of them are called Hit Vids!

Guns
So here is a list of reliable places to get weapons and ammo, and maybe if you're lucky mods to add to your guns.
Military Camps
Louiseville -
- On the way to Louiseville in several different directions the city is surrounded by military camps. Even if you go as far east as possible, there are still military camps. You can also find military gear and walkie talkies. If you follow the main road north to Louiseville, you will pass multiple Military camps on the way in fenced areas. It's impossible to miss unless you're taking back roads. If you approach Louiseville from the very right, there are a few residential houses just outside of the city, and if you follow the road back south you'll eventually hit another military camp that 100% spawns a generator. It's fenced off so it's actually a decent place to stay if you clear the surrounding area. The only problem is gas is a really long ways away. Likely the most consistent way to get guns.

Police Stations
Keys to get into the locked areas can easily be gained by killing zombies INSIDE the building until one of them drops a key. Just pull zombies into the building and kill them inside. The other option is to simply hit the door with your melee weapon until it breaks, which also levels Maintenance, which is the #1 best skill for combat due to it increasing durability of weapons, other than just raising weapon skills themselves.
Louiseville -
Westpoint
- In the east centre part of Westpoint, in the downtown area with all the stores. If you go to the south of the downtown area, where the residential areas and stores and offices meet, and follow the edge of the stores, the police station should be at the very south part of the downtown area. It's southest of the gas station, west of the hotel, if you try to find it on the map. It's right south of either the bank, and the alley behind it can give you access to several other buildings. There is only one in Muldragh.
Muldragh - Go to the very southern edge of Muldragh, where the last building is the gas station, and the police station should be the 5th building (4th if you consider that you can't see the gas station from the road because of it's parking lot) from the south on the main road. The main road is on the very left side of Muldragh, and goes along the entire length of the town. There is only one in Muldragh.
Gun Stores/Gun Ranges
Louiseville
There is a gun range on the way to Louiseville near to a hunting cabin/motel in the woods, at the end of a curved road just off the main road leading north to Louiseville. It's not near any residential buildings and it tends to be very isolated, and make sure to bring weapons with you because it tends to have a moderate amount of zombies. But this gun range is a really good spot to find gun mods. It's a ways away from any town so chances are your trunk might get damaged and you won't be able to take it all.
To get to the gun range you have to go north towards Louiseville and pass a 4 way intersection outside of and south of Louiseville, and turn right. You have to drive a bit east and then north and then into a forested area you should hit a 3 way road, where you turn east, leading to a road that curves south. It's a dead end road but the gun range should be at the very end of the road, which is very short, and close to the 3 way intersection in the forest.
Westpoint
- Stendo's Firearms Emporium - Located on the corner of 2nd street, going north and south, and Oak street, going east and west, on the very northeast edge of Westpoint.
If you're in build 41, it's in the same spot, with a different appearance, north of the grocery store in east Westpoint and north of Twiggy's Bar. It won't be on a corner, it's just a straight north-south dead end path, with only wilderness and the river north and east of it, on the very edge of town. From the southern gas station on the very south edge of town, head straight north, then when you hit a 3 way intersection go left/west, and you'll hit the large grocery store. Drive through the parking lot to the back of the grocery store until you see a fence and a back alley, and go east on the back alley road until you hit Twiggy's. From there just go north and you're there.

- Malls
Louiseville - The very northeast corner of Louiseville, a very large building, with lots of zombies inside, very difficult to miss. The best way to get there through the city is with a car and drive up north on the very left road on the left side of Louiseville, by the river, then when you can't go north anymore, head east/right, and the last building will be the mall. It will be a very large building on the map so it's easy to spot. It's at the very back of the mall, so if you enter the mall from the left entrance, just go straight/right and it's the 3rd store in. If you approach from the front/south part of the mall, just go "north"/to the back of the mall by going straight on the main floor and it will be immediately to your right at the back of the mall. This mall is the #1 location to get everything you need. But unless you download a mod or create a custom spawn, you can't spawn in Louiseville and it's a long way away from the closest spawn area in Westpoint.
- Police Blockades
These are a random spawn, but if you see police cars blocking a road with police zombies around them, chances are there is a stash of guns and ammo in the trunks of the police cars, with a few batons or other gear.

Westpoint
- The construction store next to the Greene's grocer in downtown Westpoint. East of the gas station in the middle of town (there are only two, and the other is at the southeast end of town), you just head straight east several blocks from the gas station (you should see a black building on the map with no other black buildings nearby), a block or two, and it should be right left of the grocer. If you go inside of Greene's, which is on the eastern corner of the block, there is a door in the back near the stairs going up and a delivery door that leads to the construction store from the back.\
- Storage units in southeast Westpoint. There are only two gas stations in WP, with one in the very south edge of town, so if you go there, on the east side of town, the storage units are on the same road directly north of the gas station. There are less zombies if you approach it from the south, generally.
Muldragh
- At the very Northwest end of Muldragh, there is a warehouse just on the edge of town, with only a bar/motel being the last building north of it. It's really good for finding nails, saws, blowtorches, planks of wood, paint, paintbrushes, metal sheets, hammers, crowbars, screws, and blacksmithing tools. It's a really way to get a lot of items early on and is also several stories up so it's also a decent place to make a base. It's right next to a parking lot so there are often multiple cars parked nearby, and it's right next to liquor for molotovs.
- The Logging Co west of town, with several buildings, are bigger than the warehouse at the north of Muldraugh, and have even more items. You can also find stores of food, too, if you can get there before they go bad. It's decently close to Muldragh and doesn't take long to get to by car.
- The storage units in the middle of Muldragh, east of the police station. Storage units often have a lot of construction materials, paint, furniture, books, and sometimes clothes. They also have a high chance of having multiple generators if you're using the base settings for the game.

Clothes
"Clothes?" You might be thinking, "Why would you list clothes? They're easy to find!" Simple answer: leather trousers. Leather trousers are THE BEST repairable pants in the game, and are really hard to find, harder than scarves in build 41. Your chance of finding a pair is higher from a clothing store, and they are not easy to find. I would recommend saving them for when your Tailoring is level 8 or higher.

- This gas station is right next to a spawn location you can start at when you first start a new character. You just exit the house and walk around the tall fence behind it and the gas station is right there.

Rare Event/Drop Items
Random Story Events
Boarded up houses - Machetes and many other weapons, each town/city has several and Annotated maps that drop from zombies can show their locations. Machetes are 100% guaranteed and are good weapons to get, and one of the few weapons to level long blade before patch 42.
Construction - Sledgehammers can spawn on roads or in the construction truck
Strippers - Sometimes rarely you'll get a random story event where it spawns Stripper Bunny zeds wearing rabbit ears, bunny tails, high heels, a black bodice, and nylon stockings
Millitary Zombies - They give decent protective gear like vests, boots and helmets, and can drop decent guns with ammo.
Police zombies - Found in police stations and in some random areas you can encounter in and outside of towns/cities, usually in police blockades with police cars. If you see police cars blocking a road, that is a police blockade, and you should loot the trunks if you want to see if they have any guns and ammo.
Ambulance crashes - Really reliable way to find decent sized bags and disinfectant wipes and bandages. You can sometimes find them in the middle of forests, on roads.
Rare Spawn
Nightmare on Elm Street Zombie - Hockey Masks, extremely rare spawn, visible on the zombie itself
Zombie with Katana sticking out of it - Looks like a butter knife but longer and with a handle, it will show in the stomache of the zombie, poking through their front and back, higher chance of finding one during helicopter events pulling zeds in. Still a low chance.
Biker/poor area zeds - Leather Pants, extremely rare, might also spawn in containers, areas that have leather jacket wearing zombies - so poorer areas - are more likely to have a chance to spawn the kind of zombie that might be wearing these.
Party zombies - You might find zombies wearing Party Hats. Not defense gear, but fun and unique.
Bunny Stripper Outfit - I would think they might spawn near the strip club outside of Louiseville.
Scarves - Found in clothing stores of boxes in homes, usually closets or rooms with clothing racks. Not dropped, only looted.
Sledgehammer
There is a story event of construction trucks on roads that can spawn a sledgehammer. You can find them in the middle of roads in towns/cities and you can sometimes find them on remote roads near towns just outside of Louiseville, if you haven't gotten inside the fence yet. It's not a guaranteed spawn. If you see construction vehicles and pylons spawned as a random event in a road, usually with some kind of truck, check the street or the back of the truck. Usually you can see the sledgehammer lying in the middle of the street.
In patch 42 you have to level metalworking and have an Advanced Forge to be able to craft it, and even then you still need the sledgehammer head. Which can be found in disposal bins.
In patch 41 it had a higher chance of spawning in warehouses with lots of boxes, or hardware stores. You find a warehouse, chances are high you'll find at least 1 sledgehammer in one of the boxes. There is a % chance for a sledgehammer to spawn and the more containers you have the more likely it is you'll find one.
I've seen people saying that you can find the heads for them in garbage bins. I would also check warehouses and any toolshops.
