Squad engineering guide
Mines
Mines
General rules:
-Light vehicles (trucks, motorcycles, boats, cars and some lightly armoured cars / BRDM2's) - 1c4/1 mine (BRDM2 is 2 C4's/1 mine)
-Armoured vehicles ( some IFV's / APC's, huamvees) -at min 2 c4/ 2 mines
-Bradley IFV/AAVP IFV/Warrior IFV/FV432 - 3 mines / 5+ C4
-Heavily armoured vhics (mbt's) - 5+ c4 / 4 mines
Place mine under logi wheel than shoot out the wheel to destroy the logi
A c4 cots 50 ammo but a mine only costs 35
--> you can resupply 2 mines from a rifleman, if possible get one to come with you
Range:7meters/7 steps
Triggered mines and placed C4’s/IED’s cant be destroyed
On certain maps, there are newspapers on the roads, you can use them to hide the mines
Place mines inside the shadows, it makes them much harder to detect
You can place mines while running
Mines cannot be shot out, must be destroyed with shovel
Never place rocks on the mines, it just makes them more visible.
One strategy is to place rocks on one side of the road and mines on the other so vehicles will drive over the undetected mines instead of the rocks but this rarely ever works, just don't use rocks
Rocks are not bulletproof (sadly)
You can drive thorugh rocks
You cannot destroy rocks unless you dig them down or use explosieves
10 rocks/engineer is the limit
RPG's go through rocks
In concluaion, rocks are useless, go build up a snowmen when you are bored than forget they exists
You can place up to 10 mines, if you place an 11th, the 1st one dissapears
Mines have a slight delay:
-Don't place on slopes because light vehicles can run thorugh them without taking dmg
-Can be abused to stack the explosion of several mines
You can somewhat stack mines (meaning: they are inside each other), i usually recommend placing 2 stacked together and the 3rd one a bit further ahead (at least 7 meters so the explosion of the first mines will not destroy the other ones.)
(PIC.: example of 3 mines being stacked)
Placing 3 mines lowers your chance of success significantly while usually being straight up overkill or just a waste of resources. 2 is enough to kill most vehicles or to make an mbt go back to the repair station or get tracked just long enough for a HAT to take it out.
The most effective way of closing off entire roads is the zig zag pattern, place 1 mine at a time in a zig zag pattern leaving 7m (7 steps= 7m, tho i would recommend doing an 8th step just to be sure) of space between each other
This should be used for defense mines because it wont destroy most vehicles immediatly but will disable them.
(How you should cut off bridges entirely)
(How to cut of roads using 2 mines)
You cannot see mine icons on the map from a certain range, im unsure about this range.
You can't see mine icons on the map when in the respawn menu.
Don't place mines inside the active control points so friendly vehicles can pass through.
Place them in front when capturing or behind it when your team is loosing the CP.
Use the enemy mines to your advantage:
-If the enemy team uses the same mines as you do, pick them up and place them elsewhere.
-If the enemy engineer placed his mines on the left side, place yours on the right, enemy vehicles wont suspect the mines to be there. This only works on chokepoints becuase on a more open road vehicles tend to stray far from the road and go around friendly mines even if half of the road is safe
C4
C4
C4+8hits with the shovel = FOB on bleed --> Bleed out time : 75 second
If the HAB is close to the FOB and is active, place the c4 first, dont shovel. Wait for the explosion wich disables the HAB than shovel it down, this makes sure the enemy cant respawn or react to you disabeling the FOB.
If the HAB is inactive you can place the mine than shovel down the fob while the 30s timer ticks down saving you some time.
C4/mine radius = 7m
When you are FOB hunting with a team mate make sure you don't get in the 20m radius of the HAB so you dont disable it thus remaining uncovered.
C4 can destroy 1 lvl of a hab when placed on top of the HAB on the left side, doesn't work anywhere else
When you can destroy the HAB but not the FOB you should only dig it down to sticks so the enemy team can’t just place a new one on the same FOB. (So for example you find the hab but the enemies are shooting at your squad, let your teammates take care of the threats while you dig down the hab)
C4 destroys anything in its radius even through walls (Be it a player built hasco wall or a preplaced building's wall, c4 goes through them-> you can destroy FOBs placed near a wall inside a building from the outside
2 C4's is enough to track a vehicle
Only 1 C4 against wheeled vehicles such as PARS III's is enough to destroy its wheels
Shooting out the 2 middle wheels will render it unsuable until repaired
Only the Irregural Militia Forces engineer get to have 3 C4's at any give time, when playing him, feel free to spam it on vehicles and fortifications when you see it fit :)
Explosions don't stack, dont place mines in the c4 radius (except for the mines are i talked about it earlier)
Placed C4's dont destroy each other (just like triggered mines don't hurt each other either), can be used by Militia to place 2 C4's at the same time on an fob causing it to die.
The second C4 doest blow up at the same time as the first one but after its 30 second times has expired, so dont waste time on place them
When sitting on a bleeding fob, you can place the 3rd C4 on it thus killing whoever is shoveling the FOB up (or is just simply unlucky enough to be in its range)
WPMC engineer can place 5 C4's at the same time
WPMC C4's go off at the same time
IED's
IED's:
IED's are available for the insurgents
Costs 100 ammo per piece
Has a lethal range of 20meters
Can be detonated using the phone
Can be placed on any surface
You can have 5 ied's placed at any given time, just like mines, when you place the 6th, the 1st one dissapears
Detonation time is roughly 5 seconds
IED's detonate synchronized (unlike C4's)
Generally speaking IED's do the same damage as mines do except:
- Huamvees where and IED can one shot them
- FOB's, wich and IED can one shot as well from full hp. No need for shoveling
Can be shoveled into the ground just like mines, but are uneffective againts vehicles because of the 4 second delay
You can place IED's on vehicles and commander drones creating a suicide bomber, the player should not drive the vehicle simply because you can't drive and detonate at the same time
After testing i concluded that IED's unlike C4's cannot destroy habs
1 IED is enough to track a vehicle, only 3 is needed to destroy an mbt (tho it can be still repaired(fire))
1 IED is enough to destroy a pars
Vehicles
Driver behaviour:
- Cuts corners
- Goes straight to the obj --> path of least resistance
- Drives in the middle of the road
Thus can be stated:
- Ignore the visible path, treat it as a sequence of straight lines between corners --> place the mines in the at 2/5th or 4/5th of the line, not in the middle nor on the sides
- Vehicles tend to stray far from the road and go around friendly mines even if half of the road is safe
Gameplay (what to do + fob hunting)
Gameplay:
Avarage game should go as:
-Engineer goes with team, helps backcapping and building 1-2 habs
-Once frontline is set move on the flanks and cut off supply routes with mines / destroy FOB's
-Use FTL to mark enemy movement, make sure to communicate, YOU are the scout
-If died, try helping with logi runs + defense building
-If firendly vehicle is hurt, offer a help so the crew doesnt have to get into a risky position, use smoke to cover them as well
-If you died and there is "nothing to do", continue scouting
-Try to use friendly vehicles as resupply points such as truck's, car's or IFV's pushing the enemy backline, ask SL to tell them to come to you
Dont forget that in the end, you should follow your SL's orders, so don’t just go and run off / ignore him
If your squad decides to push 4th CP at he beginning, don't help them place the HAB, go ahead and place down mines immediately, this will help your team defend the point longer while also being a sneaky surprise
FOB hunting importance tierlist
1: Active offensive fob's --> highest risk + highest reward
2: Left behind defensive fob's --> low risk + high reward if you can destroy them before the enemy team has to fall back onto it, otherwise an easy target
3: Repair station/mortar fob's --> medium risk + high reward
4: Inactive fob's --> FOB's that the enemy will most likely not fall back onto, can't hurt to destroy it but you should not bust your chance to place mines, come back for them later
You can hear a radio from 60meters, use 200% effect sounds to hear them better
You should not lock engineer first thing in the game when playing the brits, without mines you should let the team have more HAT's, if the role remains availabe, you can take it
Combat engineers (generally speaking) are highly unfit for firefights. Usually having nothing more than 4 magazines and irons/red dots he is unfit for longrange fighting and quickly runs empty in a cqb scenario. Your gun should be no more than a plan B in case you get cought.
An exception is the british, australian and canadian engineer who get to use a scope, Tho they either lack mines or C4's so playing them is usually less fruitful.
When FOB hunting:
-Place down enemy fob marker/fob creation marker
-Hover over it with the cursor so you can see the circles
-Open up the minimap
-When reopening the main map move your coursor
--> this will show you the range of the radio on you map until either the marker gets deleted or you hover over it again
-->Place it on a discovered structure than use it to find the radio itself
Fortifications (raw)
Fortifications:
Place fortification on FOB's. Most SL's just place the FOB in the corner and leave it there, you should place your razor wire to cut the enemy off. This gives you a sound clue and also wastes time giving your team a sliglty better chance at saving the fob
Place razor wire in a way where it looks like you could walk right past it but you cant, great way to trap enemies inside.
Building razor wire up to lvl1 can also help with thagt because during a fight, most ppl will not see the wire
You use sandbags to close off a staircase, if they jump over it they are easy targets and if the try to dig it down they wont be able to defend themselves
(example: placing lvl1 barb in tall grass can barely be seen, ppl will die or at minimum waste time with healing)
