Where to put hab in relation to radio.

Arguments For Putting Radio Near the HAB

Many players argue for collocating radio + HAB (or at least keeping them fairly close). The reasoning includes:

  • You can hear radios in orbit now. There is no point in trying to hide them farther away from the Hab. Place the radio nearby the hab in a location that is hidden from plain sight but easy to access for your team to defend.
  • It simplifies defense: if the HAB and radio are at the same location, you only need to defend one site. If your Hab gets proxied you’ll lose the radio as well but at least you won’t have to defend two separate locations and the active objective
  • It also ensures that friendly players are more likely nearby to quickly respond to threats against the radio.

In short, the “near” placement is often favored when you expect to mount a strong defense or when the FOB is on or near an active objective.

Arguments For Putting Radio Far From The HAB

On the other side, a significant portion of players believe it’s better to separate radio and HAB (or keep distance); especially for “rear” or backup FOBs. Common reasons:

  • Making it harder for the enemy — if HAB is found and blocked/overrun, but radio is far, they must discover and destroy two separate locations to completely remove spawn capability, giving defenders time to react or rebuild.
  • Better resilience: a “split” FOB (radio separate) allows for fallback spawn points and a distributed defense — forcing attackers to split resources to deal with both radio and HAB.
This approach tends to be preferred when building “rear” FOBs (less exposed, supply-oriented, hidden), or when the HAB is not near a contested objective.
