Couch Tripping
Basics
The goal is to have a different No Man's Sky experience with a jarring "Thrust".
Crystal Sulfide Vents are one of the known early game enders if you're not protected and linger too long in their wake. What some have obviously figured out is that placing a couch or chair on top of the vent will propel you upward/sideways; any direction the vent spews naturally.
Find yourself a body of water that has Crystal Sulfide Vents that spew forcefully vertical. Summon over your head your Freighter so that the vents natural aim seem in correct alignment.
Place a new Base Computer down near the base and whatever structure you feel you need to survive underwater for the cautions attempts to follow up.
Place any furniture you own onto the Vents erupting cone and time your approach to match the intervals of the eruptions to avoid taking heat damage.
Approaching the furniture triggers the action to "Sit", so do this until you sit, more than likely you'll harvest some Crystal Sulfide before you actually do sit.
Once you've blasted off the couch and into the air it is good practice to immediately go into "Photo Mode" note #1 Addendum to wiggle your camera under your character to line up the contrail of your bubbling "Jet Pack", if you see that your target is within the scope of your characters body, aligned with the bubble trail, your good to go.
Exit "Photo Mode" and sit tight. TIGHT!
ProTip: Move the sun if one can not see the faint trail in broad daylight while in "Photo Mode" Other adjustments are available too.. ie Clouds, Bloom etc..
As you are rushing out of the atmosphere you'll be hit a couple times with the Vent's timed spew and take shield damage so restore as necessary. This is what allow us to go into "Photo Mode" to verify our trajectory. Now that your in this ExoCouch protected capsule you can still suffer from Cold, Tox, Heat, Rad, but as far as terrain is concerned your rushing to fast to get stopped.
Now keep and eye out for your frigates or freighter and don't use the movement controls, Keyboard WSAD or your toon will abort the flight simulation by standing up. (Look but Don't Touch).
Intermediate
Once you've exited the planets atmosphere is where you succumb to actual threats if you leave the protective ExoCouch (Made up Name, but the shoe fits Me!)
Do you know about HotKeys (HK)? In the quick menu, you have the Recharge "battery" icon to list everything that can take a resource to recharge your de-buffed strengths'. I HK Oxygen to #1 and keep a Rii Bluetooth Keypad handy for the extended swimming (Recharge).
Hopefully you have pretty well upgraded "Jet Pack" with the Fall Refill module because your gonna exit (stand up) and boost to your freighter once your in sight of it. Good rule of thumb is the video above. I found Leviathan and hopped on but I'm Nexus Modded and have a pack cheat and fall very slowly.
Make it to your freighter and you'll find a bit of Atmosphere that will start recharging your suits hazard protection and stop sapping O2.
Boost to the top of your freighter and make a Airlock with your build menu and get to safety.
Congratulations you've Earned a Bronze Metal in ExoCouch!
Now that your safe on board, find your teleporter and get yourself freshened up for Next Level Adventure.
Advanced
What else is there possibly to do from here? Good question.
Find a system that has a moon Tidally locked to a planet with water. Using your space ship zip back and forth from the atmosphere of each trying your best to align dead center (good guess aiming) and land on the surface of the planet (On water now with Aqua Landing Module) and find that vent.
You may have to test several to find the one that gives your "Photo Mode" targeting a "FAT", can't miss landing.. ALSO Seats left/center/right will blast you in different directions, If one of the seats shows you off within 10 degrees, realign your ExoCouch (lol) by picking it up in "Build Mode" and rotating it on the horizontal axis by as much. Test Again. I did this on the last phase of my 1.2 mil u's, and I spent less time looking for a vent than the 3 previous phases. That vid, (in "The Undaunted" Section) will show just how narrow and thin you can trust the targeting.
I've only twice had to abort the Exo trip and fall into the planet. So don't be reluctant to abort if you're packing a good bit of Oxygen.
It's been my experience that most moon shot trips last around ~20 ~30 minutes, and since our view is limited to pan up/down we can not see where were going!!!! 360 degrees left/right, but we're blind for a couple anxious minutes.
So, put your thinking cap on for awhile and as you start to descend toward the moon you'll notice the camera will have your bubble contrail spitting over your head instead of off to the side our out of you butt.
Prepare to land or else you'll plow thru the terrain at around 4500 u's per minute. (Rough Guess)
Once you enter the atmosphere you'll be greeted with the tune and given a few more moments you'll want to stand to step off onto the planet. You have landed but you have not discovered this planet till you call in your ship and enter / exit, or build a base and teleport off and back on. Sweet. You could spend all day exploring / cataloging this moon without ever being credited with discovery.
Congratulations you've Earned a Silver Metal in ExoCouch!
This Blending can be helpful if you are away from keyboard (afk) and are monitoring your progress from a distance.
The difference (in blend) between a near moon and a distant planet is planet is drastic. I'm guessing this is a result (the depiction) of gravitational pull toward the destination.
Blending (auto follow) for a moon is sleek and awe inspiring, to a distance planet it is sometimes just a 1 frame snap at a midway point and another X frame snap entering the planets orbit.
In most of my Lunar vids, I keep the camera point fully down and centered at the widest view of the launch area to thus be treated to a full sweeping blend coming into the orbital pull of Moon.
Interstellar videos vary by POI for reference.
Professional
So, you've got the basics, intermediate, advance lessons learned and practiced. Now your up to take on the challenge of Interplanetary ExoCouch'in..
We may benefit from using the ships 1st person view here to ascertain the degree variables here as the planets are further away and therefore much smaller in your huds or visor. But the true test is in once again "Photo Mode".
If you can line up the bubble contrail to the planet even on the edge, you're MISSON GO.
- Freighter in system
- Anomaly in system
- Hot Key'ed restore item.
Why Anomaly, well if you set up a vent base and then fly to the Anomaly to teleport back to your Vent base.. you've now got the "Return to Anomaly" on you quick menu which means ... Get out of Jail Free.
If you're feeling the Vykeen blood coursing in your veins, put them in between your scoped out flight path as waypoints to give you a hint at how much longer you'll be pent up on Coach Class ExoCouch.
Remember you can look 360 degrees left/right but up/down is limited and the movement controls will make you stand.. Who wants that??
Get a rough estimate of the distance between the departure planet and arrival planet in your ship.
My rough estimate is we ExoCouch @ 4500 u's/min on a 75 to 90 degree launch.
Do the math, make it more precise and let us know.
Congratulations you've Earned a Gold Metal in ExoCouch!
btw, have I attempted to build in space since I'm on the couch and can call up the build menu.. Yes I have and I did not survive long enough to build a power source for the teleporter. You're in swim mode and the Prefab underwater hab will orient you but o2 alerts are relentless and then your health pips crash and .... fade to black. Carry meats and good luck, and I bow to those that have. GRAH!!!
Video in Reverse: Old School what the kiddies begged for in class.
The Undaunted
More than one Interplanetary in System. Nuff said.
Congratulations you've Earned a Platinum Metal in ExoCouch!

Planet Side Base Hopping
Dude? What kind of Nip Nip are you smoking!?
From your base Vent, travel within lower atmosphere to a neighbors base.
Congratulations you've Earned THE Unobtainium Badge of Nagdom in ExoChair!
The Marine Shelter was a must when placing the chair on the side of the vent. Why? Because the hitbox to interact (Sit) is hard to find if not outright impossible. Careful not to destroy your Vent, placing the shelter to close will overlap destroying the terrain and then the Vent.
It took me over 6 hours to learn the placement of the first chair in this video. This is an example of how not to approach the task. Chair inside Shelter: Consumed each trip, lost placement.
(in Vid), it made a base save beacon disappear for some unknown reason, and consumed the chair and or couch on each test. When I removed the Marine Shelter my terrain restored and the save beacon reappeared.
The second chair took only 10 minutes. Check out the trips! Chair(s) outside Shelter: 100% repeatability.
Addendum
Note #1: In the Aquarius Expedition, I had to briefly take myself out of multiplayer to see the contrail. It vanished instantly and my toon at time treaded water in space too. Toggling Multiplayer off to align the contrail in targeting; then back on to enjoy the party.
Worse case scenario:
Dying is space! That is it. Having a good restore point is always a best in class backup.
If you are prepared to fight the onslaught of O2 depletion carry
Life Support Get
Oxygen
Dioxite
Meat to restore health pips.
If you don't panic and willfully have the Hot Key items in store and the Meat on the inventory short list you can use your jet pack in bursts to orient yourself, heal, and call in your Freighter.
You will then swim / boost / heal your way to the Hanger doors to get in range of the Atmosphere build around the Freighter. Even your Frigates Living or Not have atmosphere and the Standard System Frigates have the teleporter.
Just stay calm and get it done.
Did this once and then got to the deck to the teleporter to hanger and fell straight into space. I could not see my Freighter nor summon it. I did a Dory ~ "Just keep swimming ... just keep swimming", and kept sucking down O2 till I could summon my Freighter.
There is a distance that I can not measure. I can say that I once fell off a Derelict Freighter Run once and like all anomaly found in space you can not summon your Freighter to rescue you no matter how far you swim.
One can go do other things once set on course, and there are no hazards in the ExoCouch! See end "The Commuter 4 Planet System Challenge Phase 1 Burnes Alpha to Inkite IV" I feel asleep with alarm set for 2 hours and woke up plowing to a new Depth Record.
You have a MK2 backpack refiner.. process some "Runaway Mould", craft some Trade Item.
If your Freighter is in system and has the Matter Beam, you can finally sort thru your inventory and give your cargo holds some love including releasing fish for nanites.
You got all these steps and hints, seen the video's and tried and tested the fences that HG gives us.. You have my thanks and respect.
