How to claim a crashed ship multiple times

How to start

This process begins during the quest "Awakenings" when you find the coordinates that lead you to a crashed ship, and the quest objective.

The first thing you should do, is NOT interact with the distress beacon for the objective. This will only work if you leave the objective alone.

Before anything it would also be a good idea to collect the following items for each ship you'll want to claim:
1 Di-hydrogen Jelly
1 Hermetic Seal
50 Pure Ferrite
1 Metal Plate
(because the damage in the ship is randomized, you may not need all of these Items)

fixing and spawning another ship

You will start by claiming the abandoned ship. Always be careful to select "claim ship" not "swap ship."
once you have claimed the ship, you'll need to fix the launch thrusters, and the pulse engine. It doesn't matter if everything else is broken.

you can also take this chance to dismantle or fix and remove and useful upgrades.

dismantling the modules will give some useful materials. But if it is a good one, it may be worth fixing it and taking it for a better ship in the future.

you can do this with upgrades, and some installed weapons.

And when you're finished with these steps you can fly off in your ship!
You will need to fly far enough away so that the crash site you were at is no longer rendered. It shouldn't be too far away, just a few seconds flight.

The bug occurs when you return, rendering the location again, and spawning a duplicate of the ship you just fixed! As far as we know, you can do this infinitely, as long as you don't interact with the distress signal for the quest.

Scrapping your ships

Now that you have way too many ships, you need to head to your local space station. Here you'll be able to scrap out all your ships and get a huge payout! Walk back to the Starship Outfitting station to begin salvaging scrap from your ships.

Make sure to switch to the right ship before salvaging it! The next ship to come up after scrapping a ship will usually be your good one.

After you've scrapped your ship(s) you'll need to go to the trade terminal to sell the scrap, and you can also go to the other merchants to sell the upgrades you'll also receive for a few Nanites.

Happy bug exploiting, everyone!
