The song was written and performed by Johnny Bond and his Red River Valley Boys in 1943 for the movie Arizona Trail.

The recording session was held in late 1944 at the Standard Studios in Hollywood, California. The session personnel included Johnny Bond (vocals, guitar), Jimmy Wakely (guitar), D­ick Reinhardt (vocals, bass fiddle), Wesley Tuttle (vocals, guitar), Merle Travis (guitar) and Paul Sells (accordion).
